Method
- Heat milk in the heatproof jug in the microwave till just short of boiling, we do about 6.5 minutes on high.
- Allow milk to cool, then remove skin from the surface.
- Place approximately 60g of the starter yoghurt (as fresh as possible) into the yogurt making container, then mix in about 1/4 of the milk to ensure the yoghurt and milk combine well.
(alternatively if using a commercial yoghurt mix, just follow the packet instructions)
- fill the container to the fill line shown on the side with the remaining milk, it won't be the entire 1 litre (very close though). Fit the lid to the container.
- As per the instructions for the EasiYo, fill the fermenting unit with boiling water till the top of the red supporting piece.
- Place yoghurt container into the unit & close the unit.
- Leave the yoghurt on the bench or equivalent for 24 hours. the ferment will be partially set after about 12-15 hours, however a complete result with a good level of lactic acid
production takes about 24 hours.
- Remove the yogurt tub from the unit and refrigerate till needed, you now have a 1 litre container of yoghurt which will be good for consumption for approximately 2 weeks.
Snack tip:
Place 2 tbsps of rolled oats, 1 tbsp of mixed seeds (such as Kapai Puku) into a small snack tub with 2-3 tbsps of your fresh yogurt, top with frozen berries & pop into your lunchbag for a
perfect morning tea snack! By morning tea time the oats and seeds will be chewy soft, the whole thing will be sweetened by the berries and you will have a snack that's full of pre- &
probiotic goodness, protein to keep you full, healthy complex carbohydrates to fuel you till lunchtime, and beta glucans for gut and cardiovascular health - perfect!
